1 Introduction
This document defines the Records and their definitions that are used to make up the Sales/Usage Reports (DSR messages) in the Digital Sales Reporting Message Suite and was developed by member organisations of the Digital Data Exchange, LLC (DDEX). Any organisation wishing to implement this (or any other DDEX standard) is required to apply for an Implementation Licence. Information about the Implementation Licence, its terms and conditions can be found here and access to an application form can be found on here.
The DSR messages defined in the Digital Sales Reporting Message Suite (DSR) provide mechanisms for licensees (typically digital service providers or DSPs) to report to licensors (typically music rights societies, music publishers, record companies and/or distributors) data regarding the level of sales and/or usage generated from the exploitation of electronic releases containing sound recordings and/or music videos which embody musical works and/or other resources.
This part of the DSR standard (along with Part 1 which defines the principles of the structure of all of the standard DSR messages) defines the syntax and semantics of all the Records that are used to create DSR messages. The Records are used to build the DSR messages defined in other parts of the Digital Sales Reporting Message Suite (that is, at the time of writing, Part 3, Part 4, Part 5, Part 6, Part 7, Part 9, Part 10 and Part 11). These other parts define standard DSR messages that can be used by different types of licensees to report sales and/or usage and are known as profiles. Each of the profiles identifies the Records that should be used and the order in which they should be used to create a DSR message in accordance with that profile.
